New aromatic co-polyamide-imides (coPAIs) containing both carboxyl and hydroxyl groups in the repeating units were synthesized for the first time. Transport, thermal and morphological properties of dense nonporous membranes from PAIs obtained using the diacid chloride of 2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-1,3-dioxoisoindoline-5-carboxylic acid and diamines 5,5'-methylene-bis (2-aminophenol)) and 3,5-Diaminobenzoic acid, taken in molar ratios of 7:3, 1:1, and 3:7, have been studied. High levels of membrane permeability accompanied by high selectivity for mixtures of liquids with significantly different polarities were determined by realization of intra- and intermolecular interactions in polymer, which was proved by thermal analyses and hydrodynamic characteristics of coPAIs.

Polydiacetylenes (PDAs) are conjugated polymers that are well known for their colorimetric transition from blue to red with the application of energetic stimulus. Sensing platforms based on polymerized diacetylene surfactant vesicles and other structures have been widely demonstrated for various colorimetric biosensing applications. Although less studied and utilized, the transition also results in a change from a non-fluorescent to a highly fluorescent state, making polydiacetylenes useful for both colorimetric and fluorogenic sensing applications.

Iron fortification with food supplements remains the primary dietary strategy for improving iron deficiency anemia (IDA). This study used Antarctic krill protein for fibrillar design to form an Antarctic krill protein amyloid fibril (AKAF). The results indicated that peptides generated by proteolysis were a prerequisite for fibril assembly, forming elongated fibril structures and cross-linking upon heating.

Modulation of optical properties through smart protein matrices is exemplified by a few examples in nature such as rhodopsin (absorption wavelength tuning) and the green fluorescence protein (emission), but in general, the scope found in nature for the matrix-controlled photofunctions remains rather limited. In this review, we present cyclophane-based supramolecular host-guest complexes for which electronic interactions between the cyclophane host and mostly planar aromatic guest molecules can actively modulate excited-state properties in a more advanced way involving both singlet and triplet excited states. We begin by highlighting photofunctional host-guest systems for on-off fluorescence switching and chiroptical functions using bay-functionalized perylene bisimide cyclophanes.

Unlabelled: The prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), have emerged as critical global health challenges. Current lipid-lowering pharmacotherapies are associated with side effects, including hepatotoxicity, rhabdomyolysis, and decreased erythrocyte counts, underscoring the urgent need for safer therapeutic alternatives. Hepatocyte nuclear factor 4α (HNF4α) has been identified as a pivotal regulator of lipid metabolism, making it an attractive target for drug development.
