Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic condition influenced by diet, which affects gut microbiota and immune functions. The rising prevalence of IBD, linked to Western diets in developing countries, highlights the need for dietary interventions. This study aimed to assess the impact of white kidney beans (WKB) on gut inflammation and microbiota changes, focusing on their effects on enteric glial cells (EGCs) and immune activity in colitis.

The exploration and development of hydrocarbon resources in the Western Desert require more continuous activities. The Silah is a newly discovered field in this region. Therefore, this study emphasizes the application of petrophysical evaluation to sandstone and carbonate reservoirs from the late and early Cretaceous.

Compromised vascular integrity facilitates the cancer cells extravasation and metastasis. However, the mechanisms leading to a disruption in vascular integrity in colorectal cancer (CRC) remain unclear. In this study, PCDH17 expression was higher in the vascular endothelial cells of colon cancer with distant metastasis, and the rates of PCDH17 endothelial cells (ECs) was associated with the M stage in clinical pathological characteristics analysis and correlated with a poor survival prognosis.

Human cathelicidin LL-37 rapidly disrupted colonic epithelial integrity.

Biochim Biophys Acta Biomembr

January 2025

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Calgary, Canada. Electronic address:

The intestinal barrier, held together by epithelial cells and intercellular tight junction (TJ) proteins, prevents the penetration of microbial pathogens. Concurrently, intestinal epithelial cells secrete antimicrobial peptides, including cathelicidin. Cathelicidin has direct antibacterial and immunomodulatory functions, although its role in intestinal integrity remains elusive.

Homotypic membrane-camouflaged camptothecin nanorods combining photothermal and chemotherapy for synergistic antitumor therapy.

Int J Pharm

Institute of Biomedical Engineering, College of Medicine, Key Laboratory of Advanced Technologies of Materials, Ministry of Education, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu 610031, China. Electronic address:

Chemotherapy hardly achieves satisfactory therapeutic efficacy owing to the widely occurred adverse effects and drug tolerance, and the extensively investigated delivery systems suffer from complicated synthesis, low drug loading and less efficient tumor accumulation. Herein, we developed rod-shape nanocrystals to address challenges in the circulation stability, tumor targeting and therapeutic efficacy of camptothecin (CPT), a mainstay of treatments for various cancers. CPT nanorods (CNR) were coated with polydopamine (PDA) to achieve combinational chemo- and photothermal therapies (PTT) and then wrapped with cell membrane (CM) from homotypic tumor cells to obtain CNR@PDA-CM.
