Herein, we report the synthesis of copillar[5]arene-based pyrene Schiff base 1 and its characterization by using 1H, 13C NMR, FT-IR and mass spectrometry. UV-vis absorption, steady-state fluorescence and time-resolved fluorescence are done to elucidate the photophysical behaviors of 1. To understand the electronic structure of 1, density functional theory (DFT) calculations are performed.

Tree bark is a crucial tissue that defends tree stems from invasions by microorganisms. However, our understanding of the constitutive chemical defense mechanisms of the tree barks remains limited. Our group recently discovered that the inner bark of Sorbus commixta exhibited potent inhibitory effects on the growth of the white-rot fungus, Trametes versicolor.

The initial decomposition reactions of 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene (TNB), picric acid (PA), 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), 2,4,6-trinitroaniline (TNA) and 2,4,6-trinitrophenylmethylnitramine (Tetryl) were studied using ReaxFF-lg molecular dynamics simulations, and the substituent effect on the thermal decomposition behaviours of nitrobenzene compounds was evaluated through the reactant number, initial decomposition pathway, products and cluster analysis. The results show that the introduction of substituents could promote the decomposition of the reactants, increase the frequency of the nitro-nitrito isomerization reaction and intermolecular H or O atom transfer reaction, and reduce the frequency of the direct nitro dissociation reaction. Notably, these effects were most obvious in the case of TNT.

Detecting small concentrations of nitro-compounds surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is reported. In particular, explosive analogues, such as 4-nitrophenol, 1-nitronaphthalene, and 5-nitroisoquinoline, and an explosive material (picric acid) are investigated and prepared by measurements using two different methods. One method involved mixing the analyte with plasmonic silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) in a solution, followed by subsequent drop-casting of the mixture onto a silicon substrate.

In this work, Terminalia chebula leaf extract was used to synthesize CuO-CoO nanoparticles, which were then embedded in a rice straw biochar. This new biochar-based nano-catalyst is used to photocatalytically degrade a variety of dyes (Eosin Y, Trypan Blue, Crystal Violet, Methylene Blue, Brilliant Green), as well as a binary mixture of Eosin Y and Trypan Blue dyes. It is also used for the catalytic reduction of nitro compounds (4-NP, 3-NP, and Picric acid).
