Naphthenic acids and naphthenic acid fraction compounds (NAFCs) are associated with production of unconventional petroleum resources, especially the Athabasca Oil Sands of Alberta, Canada. This complex mixture of acidic organic compounds is toxic to a variety of taxa, and so represents an important environmental management challenge. Thus, there is clear motivation to better understand the occurrence and characteristics of NAFCs in aquatic environments, their chemical behaviour, and environmental fate.

Introduction: Histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) and combination chemotherapy are independently used to treat relapsed/refractory (R/R) lymphoma. In vitro studies suggest that the addition of HDACi to platinum-based chemotherapy is synergistic.

AbstractTheoretical studies from diverse areas of population biology have shown that demographic stochasticity can substantially impact evolutionary dynamics in finite populations, including scenarios where traits that are disfavored by natural selection can nevertheless increase in frequency through the course of evolution. Here, we analytically describe the eco-evolutionary dynamics of finite populations from demographic first principles. We investigate how noise-induced effects can alter the evolutionary fate of populations in which total population size may vary stochastically over time.

Manure application as fertilizer can increase environmental exposure risk, as antibiotics, antibiotic resistance bacteria (ARB), and antibiotic resistant genes (ARGs) can be transmitted to agricultural fields, and adjacent natural systems. Understanding how specific antibiotics and ARGs respond within different manure fractions during on-farm management is limited. The study objective was to conduct a mass flow analysis determining the fate of antibiotic resistance factors (antibiotics, ARGs, and ARB) through solid-liquid separation, with the solid fraction continuing through a bedding recovery unit (BRU) via high temperature rotary composting for use of the manure solids as dairy cow bedding.

The present study investigated the fate, and the biological effects posed by the presence of Disposable Face Masks (DFMs) into fresh- and saltwater media, using both chemical and biological testing. To this end, slightly fragmented DFMs were maintained in tanks with artificial sea water (ASW) or dHO (DFMASW and DFMdHO, respectively) for a period of 20 days (under continuous agitation, oxygen supply, and light/dark ration 1:1) to simulate both fresh- and saltwater natural conditions. Thereafter, DFMs leaching substances were determined, before proceeding to biological testing with the use of the marine bacterium Aliivibrio fischeri (Bioluminescence Inhibition assay), the fresh- and saltwater algal species Chlorococcum sp.
