Wearable microneedle array (MNA) based electrochemical sensors have gained increasing attention for their capability to analyze biomarkers in the interstitial fluid (ISF), enabling noninvasive, continuous monitoring of health parameters. However, challenges such as nonspecific adsorption of biomolecules on the sensor surfaces and the risk of infection at the microneedle penetration sites hinder their practical application. Herein, a wearable dual-layer microneedle patch was prepared to overcome these issues by integrating an antimicrobial microneedle layer with an antifouling sensing layer.

Insect fungal pathogens such as Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium robertsii, and Tolypocladium inflatum have been used as insect biocontrol agents. Their infection mechanism involves non-specific adhesion to the host cuticle, which is controlled by hydrophobins, small proteins that form an amphipathic monolayer with rodlet morphology on diverse fungal structures. Light is an abiotic factor that may influence a wide range of cellular processes, including conidiogenesis, stress tolerance, and metabolite biosynthesis.

Nanocarriers have shown significant promise in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, utilizing a wide range of biocompatible materials such as metals, inorganic substances, and organic components. Despite diverse design strategies, key physicochemical properties, including hydrodynamic diameter, shape, surface charge, and hydrophilicity/lipophilicity, are crucial for optimizing biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, and therapeutic efficacy. However, these properties are often influenced by drug payload, presenting an ongoing challenge in developing versatile platform technologies for theranostics.

Background: Keloids are disfiguring, fibrotic scar-like lesions that are challenging to treat and commonly recur after therapy. A deeper understanding of the mechanisms driving keloid formation is necessary for the development of more effective therapies. Current in vitro cell-based methods, relying on single cell types, have structural and functional limitations in determining lung drug permeability, which is a contributing factor affecting both local and systemic drug levels. To address this issue, we investigated a 3D human lung airway model generated using a cell culture insert, wherein primary human lung epithelial and endothelial cells were cocultured at an air-liquid interface (ALI). To ensure that the cell culture mimics the physiological and functional characteristics of airway tissue, the model was characterized by evaluating several parameters such as cellular confluency, ciliation, tight junctions, mucus-layer formation, transepithelial electrical resistance, and barrier function through assaying fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran permeability.
