Context The adipose tissue produces adipokines - hormones essential to many biological functions, including reproduction. Aims We hypothesised that resistin, one of the adipokines, is present in the blood plasma, uterine luminal flushings (ULF) and uterus of pigs during the oestrous cycle and early pregnancy, and that resistin influences uterine steroidogenesis. Methods This study aimed to determine the expression of resistin in the porcine endometrium and myometrium during the cycle and pregnancy by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blot (WB).

Introduction: The placenta produces corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH), which rises exponentially in maternal plasma across pregnancy. CRH plays a functional role in fetal development, labor initiation, and the regulation of gestational length. We aimed to understand how maternal plasma CRH during pregnancy reflects placental physiology during parturition by characterizing placental transcriptomic signatures of maternal plasma CRH and comparing to transcriptomic signatures of gestational age at birth.

Patients And Methods: Materials and Methods: To test our hypothesis, this case-control study consisted of 20 healthy donors (control group); 49 patients with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 according to PCR analysis; 15 patients with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 in combination with renal cell cancer; 29 patients with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 in combination with critical limb ischemia, 10 pregnant womens with COVID-19.

This chapter details protocols for determining plasma thyroid hormone (TH) levels and tissue TH content by competitive radioimmunoassays (RIAs). These protocols include: an initial test of the chromatographic performance, isotopic labeling to produce high activity I-T3 and I-T4, free iodide estimation of the labeled products, purification of tracers from iodide by paper electrophoresis, extraction of THs from plasma and tissue samples, and the RIA procedures. The RIA involves the competition between radioactive labeled and unlabeled hormones for specific antibody binding, and due to its high sensitivity is capable of detecting a minimum of 2.

Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) accurately measures plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC), but its correlation with radioimmunoassay (RIA), equivalent RIA levels, and optimal cutoff for PAC and aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR) in primary aldosteronism (PA) screening have not been determined in a Korean population. Our study of 127 patients who underwent diagnostic testing for PA showed that the LC-MS/MS and RIA methods have good correlation, with a mean bias of 29.3% for PAC.
