Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a globally prevalent clinical problem of chronic liver disorder whose main pathogenic mechanisms are hepatic lipid accumulation, oxidative stress, and inflammatory reactions. Asiaticoside (Asi) is a compound derived from Centella asiatica, possesses antioxidant, antiphlogistic, antifibrotic, as well as wound healing properties.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Asi on NAFLD and its potential mechanisms.

Alginates are anionic polysaccharides present in the cell walls of brown seaweeds. Various biological activities of alginate and its derivatives have been described. In this study, we assessed the potential of alginate obtained from (formerly ) to scavenge free radicals and function as a ferric ion reductor.

Motivated by her interest in fabric arts, late-eighteenth-century British chemist Elizabeth Fulhame experimentally investigated whether cloths of gold, silver, and other metals could be made by chemical rather than mechanical processes. In contrast to other women studying science at this time, she not only published an original monograph under her own name that challenged both the phlogistic and antiphlogistic views of combustion but also proposed an alternative explanation for oxidation and reduction. Although her contemporaries widely cited her innovative research, her history is not well known, yet a careful analysis of her work provides further insights into the reception of the antiphlogistic theory and the challenges and limitations experienced by women in chemistry during this period.

Acetaminophen [N-(4-hydroxyphenyl) acetamide, APAP] is an extensively and frequently consumed over-the-counter analgesic and antiphlogistic medication. It is being regarded as an emerging pollutant due to its continuous increment in the environment instigating inimical impacts on humans and the ecosystem. Considering its wide prevalence in the environment, there is an immense need of appropriate methods for the removal of APAP.

Using annexin A5 (ANXA5), a calcium-binding protein known for apoptosis, which we discovered to be differentially expressed in the bone marrow microenvironment (BMM) of mice with acute myeloid (AML) vs chronic myeloid leukemia, as a model system, we unravel here a circuit in which AML-derived tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) dose-dependently reduces ANXA5 in the BMM. This creates an inflammatory BMM via elevated levels of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2).
