Background: Iron deficiency (ID) is currently defined as a serum ferritin level <100 or 100 to 299 ng/mL with transferrin saturation (TSAT) <20%. Serum ferritin and TSAT are currently used to define absolute and functional ID. However, individual markers of iron metabolism may be more informative than current arbitrary definitions of ID.

Background: Obesity is associated with an increased risk of aortic diseases and operative risks. Currently, there are no effective drugs available to prevent the occurrence and progression of aortic aneurysms or dissections. We investigated potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets using a multi-omics approach.

In this study, we developed a novel class of antibacterial ARMs utilizing siderophores, small iron-chelating compounds, as targeting motifs. Siderophores naturally exhibit high specificity for bacterial pathogens due to their role in iron acquisition, making them ideal candidates for selective targeting.

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a widely used and effective tool for detection of anti-Brucella antibodies in serum, easy to perform with high sensitivity and specificity. In this study, we validated an in-house indirect ELISA using B. melitensis whole cell lysate as antigen (Bm-WCL iELISA) for the serodiagnosis of caprine brucellosis and evaluated the use of BSL-2 B.

Objectives: To explore the role of berberine (BBR) in ameliorating coronary endothelial cell injury in Kawasaki disease (KD) by regulating the complement and coagulation cascade.
Methods: Human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAEC) were divided into a healthy control group, a KD group, and a BBR treatment group (=3 for each group). The healthy control group and KD group were supplemented with 15% serum from healthy children and KD patients, respectively, while the BBR treatment group received 15% serum from KD patients followed by the addition of 20 mmol/L BBR.
