Background & Aims: Previous studies have established that hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) significantly contributes to the development of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Conversely, hydrogen sulfide (HS) has shown potential in mitigating NASH. Despite these findings, it remains uncertain whether HS can serve as a therapeutic agent against HHcy-induced liver damage.

In chronic liver injury, quiescent hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) transdifferentiate into activated myofibroblast-like cells and produce large amounts of extracellular matrix components, e.g. collagen type 1.

Sulforaphane prevents diabetes-induced hepatic ferroptosis by activating Nrf2 signaling axis.

Biofactors

Department of Molecular Biology, Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković," National Institute of Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia.

Recently, we characterized the ferroptotic phenotype in the liver of diabetic mice and revealed nuclear factor (erythroid-derived-2)-related factor 2 (Nrf2) inactivation as an integral part of hepatic injury. Here, we aim to investigate whether sulforaphane, an Nrf2 activator and antioxidant, prevents diabetes-induced hepatic ferroptosis and the mechanisms involved. Male C57BL/6 mice were divided into four groups: control (vehicle-treated), diabetic (streptozotocin-induced; 40 mg/kg, from Days 1 to 5), diabetic sulforaphane-treated (2.

A study was conducted to investigate effects of different methionine (Met) to cysteine (Cys) supplementation ratios (MCR) on growth performance, oxidative status, intestinal health, immune responses, and methionine metabolism in broilers under Eimeria challenge. A total of 720 male Cobb500 broilers (14-day-old) were allocated in a 2 × 5 factorial arrangement (5 diets, with or without challenge) with 6 replicates per treatment. The total sulfur amino acid concentrations were consistent across treatments meeting the breeder's recommendation, only MCR varied.

Hepatic hydrogen sulfide levels are reduced in mouse model of Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome.

Aging (Albany NY)

Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a rare human disease characterised by accelerated biological ageing. Current treatments are limited, and most patients die before 15 years of age. Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an important gaseous signalling molecule that it central to multiple cellular homeostasis mechanisms.
