ABT-737, ABT-263 (Navitoclax) and ABT-199 (Venetoclax) are under intensive preclinical and clinical investigation as treatments for hematologic and other malignancies. These small molecules mimic pro-death B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) Homology 3 (BH3) domain-only proteins. They also bear a structural resemblance to certain sigma (σ) receptor ligands.

Objective: Clinical evidence comparing paravertebral (PVB) and continuous intercostal nerve (ICB) blocks for pain management post video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is limited. This study confirms the analgesic effect of ICB using two catheters is not inferior to that of PVB under direct vision.

Methods: Fifty patients who underwent VATS lobectomy from July 2015 to March 2016 were prospectively recruited and randomly assigned to PVB and ICB groups.

Background: Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) can be performed under either conscious sedation or general anesthesia. Herein, we describe the diagnostic yield and complications of EBUS-TBNA performed under bronchoscopist-directed conscious sedation.

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of data collected in the bronchoscopy suite of this center on EBUS-TBNA or endoscopic ultrasound with a bronchoscope-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-B-FNA) procedures performed between July 2011 and January 2016.
