We report a 69-year-old female who was a human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 carrier and exhibited a unique clinical course of developing three hematological malignancies within a short period: diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMMoL), and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Although the blast cells in AML showed typical morphological and immunophenotypical features of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), it did not harbor gene fusion and thus initially diagnosed as APL-like leukemia (APLL). The patient developed heart failure with a fulminant clinical course and died soon after the diagnosis of APLL.

Human T-lymphotropic virus 1 (HTLV-1) was the first recognized human retrovirus. Infection can lead to two main symptomatologies: adult T-cell lymphoma/leukemia (ATLL) and HTLV-1 associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). Each manifestation is associated with distinct characteristics, as ATLL presents as a leukemia-like disease, while HAM/TSP presents as severe inflammation in the central nervous system, leading to paraparesis.

Avian leukosis virus (ALV) is an avian oncogenic retrovirus that induces leukemia-like proliferative diseases in chickens. ALV infection can result in the development of immunological tolerance and persistent viremia. Since effective vaccines against ALV are not yet available, its current prevention primarily depends on detection and eradication to establish exogenous ALV-free poultry flocks.

Monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (MBL) is a lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by clonal expansion of a B-cell population in peripheral blood of otherwise healthy subjects. MBL is divided into CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia)-like, atypical CLL-like and non-CLL MBL. The aim of this study was to evaluate immunophenotypic characteristics and clinical outcomes of MBL in kidney transplant (KT) recipients.

Avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J), a highly oncogenic retrovirus, causes leukemia-like proliferative diseases in chickens. microRNAs post-transcriptionally suppress targets and are involved in the development of various tumors. We previously showed that miR-221 is upregulated in ALV-J-induced tumors.
