Granulomatous mastitis is a chronic inflammation of the breast, mostly of unknown etiology. The treatment would be definitive if the causative organism were isolated. It is characterized histologically by granulomas, formed mostly by polymorph nuclear neutrophils and central necrosis.

In Ghana, most laboratory diagnoses of severe mycoses are based on histopathology findings due to inadequate availability of serology, culture, and molecular tests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the spectrum of mycoses diagnosed in Ghana. We retrospectively reviewed reports from 2012 to 2021 from three major pathology laboratories in Ghana to identify reports indicating the presence of fungal elements and diagnosis of a mycosis, then extracted demographic, clinical history, site of infection, stain(s), used and diagnosed mycosis details.

A 69-year-old Japanese woman visited Tokai University Oiso hospital with cutaneous ulcers on her left upper arm that appeared in January 2013, and on her right nose that appeared in December of 2013. Neither the two biopsies and tissue culture from the arm lesion nor the biopsy and tissue culture from the nose lesion detected any organism. In December of 2013, she was diagnosed as cutaneous sarcoidosis at Oiso hospital and treated with oral prednisolone for six months, however, did not show improvement.

Cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis (CLV) is a vasculitis that involves mainly small blood vessels in the skin. CLV has different causes (drugs, infections, or neoplastic or systemic inflammatory diseases). Sporotrichosis has rarely been associated with CLV.
