α-Naphthyl acetate esterase () and acid α-naphthyl acetate esterase (), a class of special esterases, are important for lymphocyte typing and immunocompetence-monitoring. As such, the simultaneous detection of and has become a target to effectively improve the accuracy in lymphocyte typing. Therefore, we developed a dual-factor synergistically activated ESIPT-based probe () to detect and sensitively, rapidly, and simultaneously in a differential manner.

[Changes in lymphocyte subsets in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in patients with systemic sclerosis].

Pol Merkur Lekarski

January 2000

Katedry Patofizjologii Klinicznej Collegium Medicum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, Krakowie.

The aim of this study was to estimate if alterations of lymphocyte subsets obtained by broncholaveolar lavage (BAL) were related to clinical data observed in nonsmoking patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). Clinical examination included chest X-rays, spirometry and arterial blood gasometry. Patients were divided into group A (pulmonary changes present, n = 15) and B (without any changes, n = 7).

With the aim of morphologically characterizing chronic sialoadenitis in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic liver disease, labial salivary gland biopsies from 22 chronic HCV liver disease and from 10 primary Sjögren's syndrome patients were compared. Only focus score (number of aggregates with more than 50 lymphocytes per 4 mm2 of glandular tissue) and grading of inflammation were able to discriminate significantly between the two patient groups. Duct ectasia, acinar depletion, presence of lymphoid aggregates with less than 50 lymphocytes and of lymphoid infiltration within intralobular salivary duct epithelium were evident in both disease groups and appeared to be non-specific, mostly age-related changes.

Introduction: Inflammatory myopathy is a treatable cause of worsening in the spectrum of neurological conditions that may develop during the course of HTLV-1 infection.

Material And Methods: To investigate the cause of subacute worsening in the strength of a 46-y-old black male with HTLV-1 associated myelopathy we performed electrodiagnostic examination and a muscle biopsy which was studied with histochemistry, immunocytochemistry and electron microscopy. Serial measurements of isometric muscle strength were performed during the course of corticosteroid treatment.

We report the case of a 49 year old woman with clinical, electrophysiological and histochemical signs of facio-scapulohumeroperoneal dystrophy characterized by highly inflammatory changes. Lymphocyte typing by immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase techniques on a muscle biopsy fragment revealed a large number of T8 cells at endomysial sites. There was no evidence of direct invasion of sound fibers by lymphocytes, which are thus unlikely to have exerted a primary cytotoxic action on the muscle tissue.
