This technique of totally diverting loop colostomy may be performed as an independent procedure or with exploratory laparotomy and surgical treatment on the distal part of the colon. Either a transverse or sigmoid loop colostomy can be used for diversion without the risk of fecal contamination of the peritoneal cavity, particularly when working with unprepared intestine. When distal irrigation is desired to purge the intestine of fecal material, either intraoperatively or as part of a subsequent intestinal preparation, it can easily be accomplished by placing an irrigating catheter distal to the staple line. In addition, the use of a small rubber suspension bar facilitates application of standard colostomy appliances for the stoma.

Objective: To describe our experience with anorectal malformation (ARM) patients, while analyzing complications and risk factors.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective study of ARM patients aged 0-18 years old undergoing surgery from 2006 to 2023 was carried out. Demographic variables, associated malformations, age and repair surgery operating times, presence and type of colostomy, previous intestinal preparation, and presence and type of surgical complications -intestinal occlusion, anal prolapse, stenosis, bleeding, dehiscence, extrusion, anoplasty misposition, urethral perforation, and stomal complications- were collected.

The COVID-19 pandemic has primarily been characterized by respiratory symptoms, but emerging evidence suggests multi-organ involvement, including the gastrointestinal tract. This case report aims to highlight colon perforation as a rare but significant complication in COVID-19 patients. We present two cases of male patients, aged 38 and 33, who were admitted with severe COVID-19 symptoms and required intubation and ventilator support.

Introduction: The optimal type of colostomy for patients with anorectal malformations (ARM) remains unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the clinical outcomes of loop colostomies (LC) versus divided colostomies (DC) in patients with ARM.
Methods: After review registration (PROSPERO: CRD42024513335), we searched multiple databases for comparative studies on LCs and DCs in patients with ARMs.
