Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP) or factitious disorder imposed on another (FDIA) is a bizarre psychiatric entity, consisting of the fabrication of symptoms and alteration of laboratory tests by a caregiver. It is considered a serious form of child abuse. Alarm signs are frequent medical visits and strange symptoms that are never objectified during hospitalization.

Background: As a proven and preferred technique for hemoptysis, bronchial artery embolization (BAE) cannot avoid the possibility of postoperative recurrence; however, few studies have examined the causes of hemoptysis recurrence after BAE.

Rapid testing for antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCAs) and glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibodies may assist in the early diagnosis of small vessel vasculitis. Clinical utility of urgent testing of these antibodies in an Australian context is not known. Our retrospective study examined the urgent test requests for ANCA and/or GBM antibodies performed over a 2-year period.

Thrombocytopenia is common in the critical phase of dengue due to decreased production from the bone marrow and increased peripheral destruction of platelets. Platelet count improves with resolution of the disease. However, further evaluation is required if thrombocytopenia persists for a longer period following dengue infection.
