A segmented polyurethane prosthetic anterior cruciate ligament prototype has been developed and its in vivo integrity assessed in canine subjects. Prosthetic ligaments surgically implanted for 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16 months were assessed clinically in living subjects, at time of autopsy, and microscopically postautopsy. It was found that the ligaments were adequate in strength to provide stability and last for periods up to 16 months. Notching of the ligaments was observed at two designated friction points.

Blending poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) with other polymers could be a rapid and accessible solution to overcome some of its drawbacks. In this work, PHB was modified with microfibrillated cellulose (MC) and a thermoplastic polyurethane containing biodegradable segments (PU) by two routes, using a masterbatch and by direct mixing. The PU and MC modifiers improved the thermal stability of PHB by up to 13 °C and slightly decreased its melt viscosity and crystallinity, thus improving the melt processability.

Flammability is a significant challenge in polymer-based electronics. In this regard, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have enabled a safe means for harvesting mechanical energy for conversion into electrical energy. However, most existing polymers used for TENGs are sourced from petroleum-based raw materials and are highly flammable, which can further accelerate the spread of fire and harm the ecological environment.

Biodegradable polymers and bioceramics give rise to composite structures that serve as scaffolds to promote tissue regeneration. The current research explores the preparation of biodegradable filaments for additive manufacturing. Bioresorbable segmented poly(ester urethanes) (SPEUs) are easily printable elastomers but lack bioactivity and present low elastic modulus, making them unsuitable for applications such as bone tissue engineering.

Polyurethane (PUR) soft foams release malodorous and potentially toxic compounds when exposed to oxidative conditions. Current chamber test methods cannot distinguish between pre-existing volatiles and those formed during oxidation, nor can they assess the formation rates of oxidation products. We subjected PUR soft foam to oxidative treatment in a continuous air flow at 120 °C.

Isocyanate-free polyurethane adhesives have attracted considerable attention as a promising environmentally friendly alternative. However, their progress has been hindered by insufficient bonding performance and weak solvent resistance, as well as the laborious synthesis processes involved. Herein, we successfully synthesized a high-performance lignin-based non-isocyanate adhesives (LNIPUs-G) through a one-pot strategy that combines the polycondensation of carbonate groups with polyether amines and aldehyde-amine chemistry.
