Twenty-six patients with generalized stable plaque-type psoriasis were treated three to five times weekly with midwave fluorescent ultraviolet radiation (UVB) combined with either tar or lubricants. After clearing, patients received maintenance treatment with lubricant and UVB for a minimum of four weekly exposures, which were subsequently decreased in frequency. A shielded control site was observed. During maintenance treatments no prolongation in remissions with UVB maintenance could be demonstrated.

Effects of environmentally relevant ultraviolet B (UVB) light on the embryonic development of a high-altitude dwelling endangered fish, Tor putitora (golden mahseer), were investigated for the first time. For that, three sets of embryos (in triplicates) were exposed to various ambient UVB light doses (1, 2 and 3 W/m, corresponding to 3.6, 7.

Premise: While some studies have found leaf variegation to reduce photosynthetic capacity, others showed that it can increase photosynthesis. Thus, what maintains variegation remains an open question. Two primary hypotheses-the anti-herbivory and abiotic heterogeneity hypotheses-have been posited, yet little empirical research explicitly investigates the maintenance of naturally occurring variegation.

A paucity of vitamin D is a common deficiency globally, with implications for many aspects of health besides the well-known impact on musculoskeletal health. The two sources of vitamin D are through oral intake, or through endogenous synthesis in the skin when exposed to ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. Assessing nutritional needs, whether by food, food fortification or supplementation, is aided by an understanding of local potential for cutaneous synthesis of the vitamin, dependent on latitude and climate, personal skin type and local culture.

Due to its involvement in skin maintenance and repair, topical administration of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) is an interesting strategy for therapeutic purposes. We have formulated and characterized a topical rhGH-loaded liposomal formulation (rhGH-Lip) and evaluated its safety, biological activity, and preventive role against UVB-induced skin damage. The rhGH-Lip had an average size and zeta potential of 63 nm and -33 mV, respectively, with 70 % encapsulation efficiency.
