Concomitance of different primary malignant neoplasms in the same individual has been observed and explained by several possible mechanisms. For urogenital malignancies in concomitance with lymphoid or with intestinal malignancies some data indicate that common etiologic factor(s) with pleiotropic effects may be involved. Concomitance of these particular different primary malignant neoplasms must therefore be kept in mind in the evaluation of patients' conditions.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects 6%-10% of women of reproductive age and is known to be associated with disruptions in the gut bacteria. However, the role of the gut mycobiota in PCOS pathology remains unclear. Using culture-dependent and internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2)-sequencing methods, we discovered an enrichment of the gut-colonizable fungus Aspergillus tubingensis in 226 individuals, with or without PCOS, from 3 different geographical areas within China.

Nutritional zinc (Zn) deficiency could impair immune function and affect bowel conditions. However, the mechanism by which Zn deficiency affects the immune function of gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) remains unclear. We investigated how Zn deficiency affects the function of GALT and level of secretory IgA (sIgA), a key component of the intestinal immune barrier, its underlying mechanisms, and whether Zn deficiency induces bacterial translocation to the liver.

The Eurasian lynx (), a widespread wild felid on the Eurasian continent, is currently classified as "critically endangered" in Germany. Understanding the impact of infectious agents is of particular importance for the continued conservation of these animals, especially regarding pathogens with broad host ranges and risk of interspecies transmission. Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is known to infect wild and domestic felids worldwide, including several species of lynx, but it has not been reported thus far in the Eurasian lynx.

Article Synopsis
  • MASLD (formerly NAFLD) is a significant cause of liver disease and there are limited treatment options available to prevent liver fat accumulation.
  • Research indicates that vasoactive intestinal peptide-producing neurons (VIP-neurons) impact fat absorption and IL-22 production, which may help protect the liver.
  • In experiments on mice, decreased communication between VIP-neurons and type 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3) led to increased IL-22 production and reduced liver fat, suggesting this neuroimmune pathway could be a promising target for new therapies.

Background and objective Lymphomas can involve the gastrointestinal (GI) tract as a primary disease or as a secondary spread of systemic disease. The GI tract is a key site for extranodal lymphomas, with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) occurring in this region. This study aimed to analyze the demography, anatomic distribution, histological subtypes, and immunomorphological characteristics of all lymphomas with a primary GI presentation at a quaternary care hospital in southern India.
