A comparative ultrasonic, oculometric study was performed in negroes, West Nigeria (151 persons) and in caucasians, Denmark (88 persons). The negros have thinner lenses than caucasians, and overall ethnic difference of 0.12 mm was found. Male negroes have longer vitreous and axial lengths than male caucasians (VB 0.56 mm, AxL 0.30 mm).

Background And Objective: Hemodynamic changes that lead to increased blood pressure represent the main drivers of organ damage in hypertension. Prolonged increases to blood pressure can lead to vascular remodeling, which also affects vascular hemodynamics during the pathogenesis of hypertension. Exercise is beneficial for relieving hypertension, however the mechanistic link between exercise training and how it influences hemodynamics in the context of hypertension is not well understood.

Effect of Ultrasound Treatment on Structural and Physical Properties of Native Maize Starch.

Plant Foods Hum Nutr

January 2025

Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología de Alimentos Córdoba (ICYTAC) - CONICET-UNC, Av. Juan Filloy S/N, Ciudad Universitaria, Córdoba, Argentina.

The focus of this work was to evaluate the differences between the thermal and mechanical effects generated by ultrasound waves on the properties of corn starch, which facilitate the subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis for the generation of porous starches. The results showed that both the thermal and mechanical effects have the capacity to disorganize/alter the structure of starch, impacting on its properties. Characteristics such as particle size, pasting and thermal properties (peak viscosity 1400-1800 cp.

One area of technological advancement has been the shift from stainless steel hand tools to nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary tools. This paper aims to perform an in vitro comparative study to evaluate the efficacy of five endodontic manual and rotary instruments such as Kerr files, Orodeka Plex V, ProTaper Flydent NiTi super files, and ProTaper Flydent NiTi super files in combination with an ultrasonic endodontic E3D Diamantata EMS scaler used for root canal shaping. The following aspects were highlighted: effective removal of smear layer (SL) from the dentinal tubules in the coronal 1/3, middle 1/3, and apical 1/3 of the root canal, appearance of cracks in the dentinal walls by SEM analysis, and highlighting of dentin mineral content and remnant debris by EDX analysis.
