Background: Receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1), a serine/threonine protein kinase, is mainly activated by pro-inflammatory cytokines and pathogens, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and its activation could result in apoptosis, necroptosis, or inflammation. This study was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a potent and selective inhibitor of RIPK1, SIR1-365, in hospitalized patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Methods: This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, phase 1b study screened patients from December 18, 2020 until November 27, 2021.

Background: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a rare but potentially severe condition that significantly affects the quality of life of patients with cancer. This study evaluated MRONJ in patients with cancer treated with zoledronic acid (ZOA) and denosumab (Dmab).
Methods: The survey investigated patients who were diagnosed with MRONJ at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery after receiving either ZOA or Dmab at the Saitama Medical Center, Saitama Medical University, between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023.
Introduction: Niacin is a non-statin lipid-lowering therapy that has been shown to lower triglycerides and improve other risk factors for renal outcomes. Despite these favorable data, the effect of niacin on long-term kidney outcomes remains unclear. The aim of this study is to examine the associations of niacin therapies with incident chronic kidney disease (CKD), end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and death in patients with estimated glomerular filtration (eGFR) of at least 60 mL/min/1.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBone mineral density (BMD) measured with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is widely used in clinical practice to assess fracture risk and guide management. DXA can also assess hip geometry, including femoral neck width (FNW) and hip axis length (HAL), which have both been associated with increased risk for hip fracture independently from BMD. Our objective was to assess if FNW predicts hip fracture independently from other factors including HAL.
