The report deals with an evaluation of the results of 430 radical operations for cancer of the proximal part of the stomach. The lethality rates following proximal resection were 16.8% and 13.1% after gastrectomy. Neither splenectomy nor marginal resection of the liver resulted in a significant increase in postoperative mortality which, however, soared up by as much as 50% after radical surgery involving the resection of the pancreas.
