The authors discuss their assessment of the technique of membrane filtration of the cerebrospinal fluid based on an analysis of over 200 cytograms obtained using Milipore membrane filters. Filtration was done in Kistler's apparatus by the method of Kistler-Bischoff and the preparations were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. In the light of the obtained results and various envisaged possibilities of use the authors recommend this condensation technique as a method of choice in cytodiagnostic examinations of the cerebrospinal fluid.

The global scarcity of irrigation-grade water poses severe concerns in the agricultural sector. Desalination techniques including reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, capacitive deionization, membrane filtration, and multi-stage flash are some dynamic solutions to mitigate this challenge. In this study, novel bio-filter materials were explored and developed for the application of membrane-based electrodialysis.

Hybrid Nanofibrous Membrane with Durable Electret for Anti-Wetting Air Filtration.

Electrospun fibrous materials with fine fibers and small pores are fundamental for particulate matter (PM) filtration, addressing its harmful environmental and health impacts. However, the existing electrospun fibers are still limited to their sub-micron diameters and unstable surface electrostatic effect, leading to deteriorated filtration performance after prolonged storage or wetting. Herein, the study creates nanofibrous membranes with long-time stable electrostatics by electret-enhanced electrospinning.

Hemodialysis is a crucial procedure for removing toxins and waste from the body when kidneys fail to perform this function effectively. This study addresses the need to improve the efficiency and biocompatibility of membranes used in dialyzers. We simulate fluid flow through two types of membranes, Cuprophan (cellulosic) and AN69ST (synthetic), to understand the complex mechanisms involved and quantify key variables such as pressure, concentration, and flow.

Here, we report a SERS based VFA using PNC as a sensing substrate for highly sensitive multiplex mycotoxins detection. The PNC was fabricated by filtration-based self-assembled monodisperse SiO NPs on a filter membrane as a template, and the obtained PNC had an ordered complementary inverse opal structure. In parallel, three kinds of Raman dyes encoding Au@Ag, Au@Ag and Au@Ag SERS nanotags were synthesized for the detection of OTA, AFB1 and ZON.

Untreated waste liquid mixtures often support large bacterial populations, posing challenges to effective purification due to high volume and limited filtration efficiency. This study aims to develop a multifunctional filtration membrane that combines both filtration and sterilization, enhancing overall purification efficiency. Using electrospinning technology, we fabricated a superhydrophilic, oil-repellent membrane by integrating the hydrophilic properties of chitosan, antibacterial N-halamine groups, and the mechanical strength of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC).
