Physiological characterization of gastric emptying using high-resolution antropyloroduodenal manometry.

Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol

January 2024

Department of Physiology, Université Rouen Normandie, INSERM, ADEN UMR1073, "Nutrition, Inflammation and Microbiota-Gut-Brain Axis," CHU Rouen, Rouen, France.

Delayed gastric emptying (GE) has been associated with antral and pyloric dysmotility. We aimed to characterize differences in the antral, duodenal, and pyloric motility profiles associated with delayed GE, using high-resolution antropyloroduodenal manometry (HR-ADM). Patients referred for HR-ADM for dyspeptic symptoms performed a concurrent GE breath test (NCT01519180 and NCT04918329).

Motilin, a peptide hormone consisting of 22 amino acid residues, was identified in the duodenum of pigs in the 1970s. It is known to induce gastrointestinal contractions during the interdigestive state in mammals. Although the motilin gene has been identified in various animal species, it has not been studied in amphibians.

The demerit of pylorus-preserving gastrectomy(PPG)is the postprandial abdominal fullness(PAF)with gastric stasis in the remnant stomach(GSRS). We investigated the relationship between clinical findings and GSRS, and between GSRS and interdigestive migrating motor complex(IMMC)in PPG patients. A total of 30 patients(17 men and 13 women, mean age of 62.

Stimulation of motilin secretion by bile, free fatty acids, and acidification in human duodenal organoids.

Mol Metab

Wellcome Trust - MRC Institute of Metabolic Science, Metabolic Research Laboratories, Addenbrooke's Hospital, Hills Road, Cambridge, CB2 0QQ, UK. Electronic address:

Objective: Motilin is a proximal small intestinal hormone with roles in gastrointestinal motility, gallbladder emptying, and hunger initiation. In vivo motilin release is stimulated by fats, bile, and duodenal acidification but the underlying molecular mechanisms of motilin secretion remain poorly understood. This study aimed to establish the key signaling pathways involved in the regulation of secretion from human motilin-expressing M-cells.

Population-Based PBPK Model for the Prediction of Time-Variant Bile Salt Disposition within GI Luminal Fluids.

Certara Ltd (Simcyp Division), Level 2-Acero, 1 Concourse Way, Sheffield S1 2BJ, United Kingdom.

In vivo studies have shown cyclic bile salt (BS) outputs during fasting whereas higher amounts have been observed in fed states. This leads to fluctuations of intestinal BS concentrations ([BS]) that can affect the rate and extent of absorption of lipophilic drugs in particular. However, most PBPK models use fixed values of [BS] in fasted and fed states albeit with different values in different regions of the GI tract.
