The use of chloramphenicol (CAP) is discussed in the light of the potential residues that may occur when CAP is not used correctly in veterinary therapy. A description of CAP and of the regulations in force is followed by suggestions of methods by which chloramphenicol residues may be prevented.

Background: Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are utilized as a starter culture in the manufacturing of fermented dairy items, as a preservative for various food products, and as a probiotic. In our country, some research has been carried out, even if LAB plays a principal role in food preservation and improves the texture and taste of fermented foods, that is why we tried to evaluate their probiotic effect. The objective of this research was to determine the antibacterial activity of ) against () ATCC 29213, investigate their antioxidant activity, and characterize their sensitivity against 18 antibiotics.

Background: RNA polymerase (RNAP) is highly conserved and essential for prokaryotic housekeeping activities, making it an important target for the development of new antibiotics. The rpoB gene, encoding a β-subunit of bacterial RNAP, has a well-known association with rifampicin resistance. However, the roles of other RNAP component genes such as rpoA, encoding an α-subunit of RNAP, in antibiotic resistance remain unexplored.

The use of antibiotics leads to strong stresses to bacteria, leading to profound impact on cellular physiology. Elucidating how bacteria respond to antibiotic stresses not only helps us to decipher bacteria's strategies to resistant antibiotics but also assists in proposing targets for antibiotic development. In this work, a comprehensive comparative transcriptomic analysis on how Escherichia coli responds to nine representative classes of antibiotics (tetracycline, mitomycin C, imipenem, ceftazidime, kanamycin, ciprofloxacin, polymyxin E, erythromycin, and chloramphenicol) was performed, aimed at determining and comparing the responses of this model organism to antibiotics at the transcriptional level.

The intensification of aquaculture in Cameroon requires efficient screening methods to control veterinary drug residues in fish. This is why the charm II radio receptor technique for the detection of antimicrobial residues in aquaculture fish initiated in Belgium was transferred to Cameroon according to Commission Decision 2002/657/EC. The validation parameters included the following tests: repeatability, reproducibility and robustness in addition to the mandatory characteristics, detection capability and specificity.

Ribosome serves as a universal molecular machine capable of synthesis of all the proteins in a cell. Small-molecule inhibitors, such as ribosome-targeting antibiotics, can compromise the catalytic versatility of the ribosome in a context-dependent fashion, preventing transpeptidation only between particular combinations of substrates. Classic peptidyl transferase center inhibitor chloramphenicol (CHL) fails to inhibit transpeptidation reaction when the incoming A site acceptor substrate is glycine, and the molecular basis for this phenomenon is unknown.
