COBRA-LIKE 9 modulates cotton cell wall development via regulating cellulose deposition.

Plant Physiol

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Crop Genetics & Germplasm Enhancement and Utilization, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing 210095, China.

Plant cell walls are complex and dynamic cellular structures critical for plant growth, development, physiology, and adaptation. Cellulose is one of the most important components of the cell wall. However, how cellulose microfibrils deposit and assemble into crystalline cellulose remains elusive.

Quickly UV-curing protective coating for cotton fabrics.

Int J Biol Macromol

December 2024

Poznań Science and Technology Park, Adam Mickiewicz University Foundation, Rubież 46, Poznań 61-612, Poland; Faculty of Chemistry, Adam Mickiewicz University, Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego 8, Poznań 61-614, Poland.

In order to eliminate the numerous limitations in application of cotton fibers, we designed and made a protective coating that changes many features of these material (such as water repellency or reducing the rate of thermal degradation), but does not change its natural flexibility and macroscopic appearance. The coating we developed consists a UV-crosslinked polysiloxanes together with organophosphates. The coating preparation process takes only a few minutes and takes place easily at room temperature.

Mechanical performance and dimensional stability of Washingtonia/Kenaf fibres-based epoxy hybrid composites.

Sci Rep

October 2024

Department of Aeronautical and Automobile Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, 576104, India.

In this study, Washingtonia fibres (AW) and Kenaf fibres (KF) were utilized as environmentally friendly fillers to improve the quality of the resin matrix. The mechanical, morphological, and physical properties of the WA/KF biocomposites were assessed throughout this research. The mechanical tests (tensile strength and moduli, elongation at break, flexural strength along with moduli, and the impact properties) were carried out.

Next-Generation Ultrathin Lightweight Electrode for pH-Universal Aqueous Flow Batteries.

Small

December 2024

Institute of Materials Research, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, Shenzhen, 518055, China.

Aqueous flow batteries (AFBs) are promising long-duration energy storage system owing to intrinsic safety, inherent scalability, and ultralong cycle life. However, due to the thicker (3-5 mm) and heavier (300-600 g m) nature, the current used graphite felt (GF) electrodes still limit the volume/weight power density of AFBs. Herein, a lightweight (≈50 g m) and ultrathin (≈0.
