Sequential colpophotographs were reviewed from a group of 1,139 female progeny exposed to diethylstilbestrol (DES) in utero and who were not yet sexually active on initial examination. Forty had ectopy. For 27 the normalized yearly rate of squamous metaplasia (replacement of columnar epithelium) was 28.8 +/- 3.7% (SEM). For the 18 who became sexually active the normalized yearly rate of squamous metaplasia was 54.6 +/- 6.2%. Thus, the sexually active women demonstrated a more rapid rate of squamous metaplasia; that rate was statistically significant (T = 3.8, p less than 0.001). The cervicovaginal hood was observed to regress slowly, and no effect of sexual activity could be demonstrated. Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2 was found in three patients. It occurred only in those who became sexually active, and the incidence was significantly different from that in the group that remained sexually inactive. The development of a small cervical os was found in two of the sexually active women without any local therapy.

In 2022, a community-academic collaborative team published 5 key recommendations for developing a national action plan to advance the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women living with HIV in Canada. In 2023, a national gathering was convened to strategize implementation of the recommendations across policy, practice, and research settings. Discussions highlighted that meaningful engagement of women living with HIV (recommendation 1) is foundational to implementing the other recommendations.

In viviparous black rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii), the kidney of reproductive-phase males actively produces lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase homolog (LPGDSh) protein, which is presumably involved in intersexual communication when emitted in the urine. The present study was undertaken to discover whether androgens and their nuclear receptors (Ars) are engaged in regulation of renal LPGDSh protein synthesis in black rockfish. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, in conjunction with immunohistochemistry and highly sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, revealed that intra-abdominal administration of a synthetic androgen, 17α-methyltestosterone (MT), to juvenile black rockfish induced their renal expression of LPGDSh transcript and protein.
