We propose a generalization of the adaptive N-Intertwined Mean-Field Approximation (aNIMFA) model studied in Achterberg and Sensi [Nonlinear Dyn. 111, 12657-12670 (2023)] to a heterogeneous network of communities. In particular, the multigroup aNIMFA model describes the impact of both local and global disease awareness on the spread of a disease in a network. We obtain results on the existence and stability of the equilibria of the system, in terms of the basic reproduction number R0. Assuming individuals have no reason to decrease their contacts in the absence of disease, we show that the basic reproduction number R0 is equivalent to the basic reproduction number of the NIMFA model on static networks. Based on numerical simulations, we demonstrate that with just two communities periodic behavior can occur, which contrasts the case with only a single community, in which periodicity was ruled out analytically. We also find that breaking connections between communities is more fruitful compared to breaking connections within communities to reduce the disease outbreak on dense networks, but both strategies are viable in networks with fewer links. Finally, we emphasize that our method of modeling adaptivity is not limited to Susceptible-Infected-Susceptible models, but has huge potential to be applied in other compartmental models in epidemiology.

If in vitro culture conditions could be improved, in vitro growth of cryopreserved ovarian tissue and isolated follicles could become an alternative to ovarian tissue transplantation. This study evaluated two cryopreservation methods, slow cooling and vitrification, and two in vitro culture methods, to determine their effect on the in vitro growth of human ovarian follicles. After warming, the OT pieces (1 × 10 × 3 mm) were cultured in either routine culture medium (DMEM), or DMEM supplemented 50:50 with media previously used for human testicular cell culture (hTCCM) to serve as a source of growth factors.

Objective: Growing evidence indicate that prenatal intermittent hypoxia (PIH) exposure can have an impact on the critical brain nerve development of the fetus, resulting in cognitive deficits in the offspring mice. Resveratrol, recognized for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capabilities, has potential to ameliorate synaptic dysfunction, which in turn may contribute to its positive influence on cognitive impairment. Nevertheless, the precise manner in which resveratrol mitigates cognitive deficits stemming from maternal hypoxia remains to be fully elucidated, including the specific mechanisms at play.

N-glycosylation protein modification plays a crucial regulatory role in numerous biological processes, although their contribution to male reproduction in mammals remains largely undefined. Here, we found that Ribophorin I (RPN1), a subunit of oligosaccharyltransferase complex, is indispensable for spermatogenesis in male germ cells. Germ cell-specific knockout results in significant inhibition of the progression of meiosis, consequently disrupting homologous chromosome pairing, meiotic recombination, and DNA double strand breaks repair during meiosis.
