Choyce's postulate.

J Am Intraocul Implant Soc

Published: May 1985

The recently published intraocular lens standards from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z80.7) contain a reasonable standard for haptic diameter in section 3.10.1.2. The exception to this is fixed-length anterior chamber tripod lenses, which comprise a distinct category for which no realistic or practical standard is feasible. In accordance with the geometric properties of triangles, such tripod lenses have incorporeal haptic diameters and present special fixation problems that do not exist with either tetrapod or flexible lenses, so their continued use should be minimized.

Several studies comparing primate locomotion under lab versus field conditions have shown the importance of implementing both types of studies, as each has their advantages and disadvantages. However, three-dimensional (3D) motion capture of primates has been challenging under natural conditions. In this study, we provide a detailed protocol on how to collect 3D biomechanical data on primate leaping in their natural habitat that can be widely implemented.

Objectives: Craniofacial assessments often involve three-dimensional facial imaging using an expensive camera with 6 SLR lenses to analyse the positions and relations of anatomic landmarks. Recently, a 3D small-format, handheld camera was developed; however, the accuracy and reliability of this system are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of this system.

Assessment of a novel pinhole supplementary implant for sulcus fixation in pseudophakic cadaver eyes.

Eye (Lond)

March 2018

Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, John A. Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, USA.

PurposeTo evaluate a novel small-aperture supplementary implant that applies the principle of pinholes for management of irregular astigmatism, in postmortem human eyes.MethodsPseudophakic human cadaver eyes were imaged by anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) to assess position of the in-the-bag intraocular lens (IOL). Eyes were prepared as per the Miyake-Apple technique.

We describe the case of an 83-year-old woman who had uneventful phacoemulsification with implantation of a tripod hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL). Because of postoperative corneal decompensation, 2 Descemet-stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) procedures were performed within 2 years. After the second procedure, the graft was not well attached, requiring an intracameral injection of air on day 3.

We have realized a 4-beam pyramidal magneto-optical trap ideally suited for future microfabrication. Three mirrors split and steer a single incoming beam into a tripod of reflected beams, allowing trapping in the four-beam overlap volume. We discuss the influence of mirror angle on cooling and trapping, finding optimum efficiency in a tetrahedral configuration.
