deficiency disorder (CDD), a developmental encephalopathy caused by mutations in the cyclin-dependent kinase-like 5 () gene, is characterized by a complex and severe clinical picture, including early-onset epilepsy and cognitive, motor, visual, and gastrointestinal disturbances. This disease still lacks a medical treatment to mitigate, or reverse, its course and improve the patient's quality of life. Although CDD is primarily a genetic brain disorder, some evidence indicates systemic abnormalities, such as the presence of a redox imbalance in the plasma and skin fibroblasts from CDD patients and in the cardiac myocytes of a mouse model of CDD. In order to shed light on the role of oxidative stress in the CDD pathophysiology, in this study, we aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), which is known to be a powerful antioxidant, using in vitro and in vivo models of CDD. We found that CoQ10 supplementation not only reduces levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and normalizes glutathione balance but also restores the levels of markers of DNA damage (γ-H2AX) and senescence (lamin B1), restoring cellular proliferation and improving cellular survival in a human neuronal model of CDD. Importantly, oral supplementation with CoQ10 exerts a protective role toward lipid peroxidation and DNA damage in the heart of a murine model of CDD, the (+/-) female mouse. Our results highlight the therapeutic potential of the antioxidant supplement CoQ10 in counteracting the detrimental oxidative stress induced by CDKL5 deficiency.

The goal of future quantum networks is to enable new internet applications that are impossible to achieve using only classical communication. Up to now, demonstrations of quantum network applications and functionalities on quantum processors have been performed in ad hoc software that was specific to the experimental setup, programmed to perform one single task (the application experiment) directly into low-level control devices using expertise in experimental physics. Here we report on the design and implementation of an architecture capable of executing quantum network applications on quantum processors in platform-independent high-level software.

Ionising radiation causes the introduction of DNA damage, more specifically double strand breaks (DSBs) and complex DNA damage (CDD), that induces cancer cell death leading to the therapeutic effect. To combat this, cells activate arrest at the G/M checkpoint to allow for effective DNA damage repair, coordinated by the Chk1 and Wee1 protein kinases. Therefore, Chk1 and Wee1 are considered promising therapeutic targets to enhance the effectiveness of radiotherapy in cancer cell killing.

Magnesium, the lightest engineering metal, has MgO and Mg(OH) as its common corrosion products, which can also be used for CO storage due to their chemical reactivity. In this study, we developed a DFTB model with monopole, dipole, and quadrupole electrostatics for magnesium compounds containing oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon and applied it in both static and molecular dynamics (DFTB-MD) calculations of the MgO and Mg(OH) hydration and carbonation processes. With our new model, the Electron Localization Function (ELF) and Charge Density Difference (CDD) were computed as part of the electronic structure analysis, providing insights into the electronic mechanism of MgO and Mg(OH) hydration and carbonation processes.
