Calmodulin (CaM) family members play crucial roles in the response to various abiotic stresses. However, the functions of CaMs in the response to drought stress in maize are unclear. In this study, a CaM gene, , was isolated from the maize () inbred line B73. The coding sequence (CDS) of was 450 bp with a protein of 149 aa which contains four EF-hand motifs. The ZmCaM2-1 protein was located in the cell nucleus and membrane, and is able to bind to Ca. was strongly induced by drought, NaCl, and low-temperature treatments, except for abscisic acid (ABA) treatment. Overexpression of in was found to decrease the drought tolerance with lower antioxidant enzyme activity and greater reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Moreover, there was no significant difference in the phenotype and ABA-related gene expression levels between -overexpressing and the wild type (WT) under ABA treatment. These results indicate that negatively regulates the tolerance of to drought stress through the ABA-independent pathway.

The ribophorin family, including RPN1, has been associated with tumor progression, but its specific role in pan-cancer dynamics remains unclear. Using data from TCGA, GTEx, and Ualcan databases, we investigated the relationship of RPN1 with prognosis, genomic alterations, and epigenetic modifications across various cancers. Differential analysis revealed elevated RPN1 expression in multiple cancer types, indicating a potential prognostic value.

Background: Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most prevalent birth defects globally and the second leading cause of death in Mexican children under five. This study examines how industrial activity and social vulnerabilities independently and jointly influence CHD incidence across 2446 Mexican municipalities from 2008 to 2019.

Methods: Using negative binomial regression models, we evaluated associations between polluting industries, healthcare access, and CHD incidence.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly malignant tumor in women, characterized by high morbidity, mortality, and recurrence rates. Although surgical treatment, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy are the mainstays of current treatment methods, the high heterogeneity of TNBC results in unsatisfactory outcomes with low 5-year survival rates. Rapid advancements in omics technology have propelled the understanding of TNBC molecular biology.

National Key Laboratory of Intelligent Tracking and Forecasting for Infectious Diseases (NITFID), National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Beijing 102206, China.

The vaccinia virus Tiantan (VTT) is widely utilized as a smallpox vaccine in China and holds significant importance in the prevention of diseases stemming from poxvirus infections. Nevertheless, few studies have investigated the influence of VTT infection on host gene expression. In this study, we constructed time series transcriptomic profiles of HeLa cells infected with both VTT and western reserve (WR) strains.
