This article provides a comprehensive review of quantum chemical computational studies on the thermal and photochemical reactions of organosilicon compounds, based on fundamental concepts such as initial complex formation, HOMO-LUMO interactions, and subjacent orbital interactions. Despite silicon's position in group 14 of the periodic table, alongside carbon, its reactivity patterns exhibit significant deviations from those of carbon. This review delves into the reactivity behaviors of organosilicon compounds, particularly focusing on the highly coordinated nature of silicon. It is poised to serve as a valuable resource for chemists, offering insights into cutting-edge research and fostering further innovations in synthetic chemistry and also theoretical chemistry.

Octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OV-POSS) was synthesized and characterized by means of proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) together with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The nanocages were then introduced to natural rubber (NR) to afford organic-inorganic hybrid composites. Upon curing with dicumyl peroxide, the size of the dispersed phase was observed to decrease monotonically with increasing OV-POSS content, as depicted in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images.

Increasing attention has been paid to silacyclobutanes because of their wide application in ring opening and ring extension reactions. However, the synthesis of functionalized silacyclobutanes remains an unmet challenge because of the limited functional group tolerance of the reactions with organometallic reagents and chlorosilacyclobutanes. Herein, we report a conceptually different solution to this end through a visible-light-induced metal-free hydrosilylation of unactivated alkenes with hydrosilacyclobutanes.

The sensitive, efficient, and simultaneous assay of creatinine and urea in different body fluid is crucial for the daily detection and treatment of chronic kidney disease. Here, we exploited a versatile composite surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-flower-like ZIF-67@Ag nanoparticles (NPs) based on simple in-situ growth and ion sputtering strategies. The plasmonic Ag NPs assembled on the three-dimensional anisotropic ZIF-67 matrix, facilitating numerous resonant electromagnetic "hotspots".

Objective: To explore the impact of the terminal tip location of silicone midline catheter (MC, a type of intravenous catheter measuring 20-30 cm in length and inserted into upper arm veins using a modified Seldinger technique) in the subclavian vein group versus axillary vein group on catheter-related complications and indwelling duration.
Design: This is a randomised controlled study.
Setting: Twenty-seven tertiary hospitals in China.
