Objective: This study aimed to assess the effects of focal brain cooling (FBC) on human brain tissue through use of multiple sensing techniques by monitoring cerebrovascular activity and brain temperature.
Methods: Intraoperative brain activity monitoring using a multimodality probe capable of measuring brain temperature, electrocorticography (ECoG) and changes in cerebral hemoglobin concentration was performed in 13 patients with refractory epilepsy. Brain temperature and neurovascular activity were measured beneath and surrounding the FBC device.

Metal(oid) concentrations in coastal sediments are often due to the contribution of anthropogenic inputs to the local geochemistry. This study aims to assess the source (lithogenic or anthropogenic) of metal(oid)s in the surface sediments of the eastern sector of the Gulf of Trieste, which is the area most impacted by urban and industrial activities. A comparison with the environmental quality standards (EQSs) defined by the legislation showed that threshold levels were exceeded for Cr, Ni, Hg, Pb, As and Cd.

The performance of the electrocatalytic CO reduction reaction (CORR) is highly dependent on the microenvironment around the cathode. Despite efforts to optimize the microenvironment by modifying nanostructured catalysts or microporous gas diffusion electrodes, their inherent disorder presents a significant challenge to understanding how interfacial structure arrangement within the electrode governs the microenvironment for CORR. This knowledge gap limits fundamental understanding of CORR while also hindering efforts to enhance CORR selectivity and activity.

In this research, nineteen (19) samples were collected and analyzed with the following objectives: to evaluate the activity concentration of radionuclides, assess gamma absorption, determine indoor radon concentration, and evaluate the public health impact of building materials used in Katsina State, Nigeria. The study aimed to provide critical data that would inform safe construction practices and regulatory compliance. Samples were sourced locally from various quarry sites, while materials such as cement, paint, tiles, and ceiling materials were purchased from local markets.
