A novel bacterial strain, MJW-29, was isolated from tidal flat sediment in Gochang, Republic of Korea. The isolate is Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, gliding motile and short rods. The strain MJW-29 is oxidase and catalase positive. Growth is observed at 25-40 °C (optimum, 30 °C) and pH 5-9 (optimum, pH 7.0) in the presence of 0-9% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 5.0% NaCl). The 16S rRNA gene sequence identity analysis showed that the strain MJW-29 is closely associated with KMU-156 (97.2%), AM1-D1 (97.2%), JBTF-M27 (97.0%) and KU5D5 (96.9%) from the family . The major respiratory quinone was Q-10. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phospholipid and an unidentified lipid. The major cellular fatty acids of type strain MJW-29 were C 7c/C 6c (64.5%). The genome length of the type strain MJW-29 is 4.9 Mbp (DNA G+C content, 62.1 mol%). It has 4638 coding genes and 43 tRNAs. The average aa identity values; average nt identity values; and biochemical, phylogenetic and physiological characteristics support the genotypic and phenotypic differentiation of strain MJW-29 from other members of the genus . The strain MJW-29 represents a novel species of the genus in the family , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MJW-29 (=KCTC 8634=KEMB 20189=JCM 37145).

Purpose: Central hypovolemia is considered to lead to a compensatory increase in cardiac contractility. From a physiological perspective, left ventricular (LV) twisting motion, which plays an important role in maintaining cardiac output, should be enhanced during central hypovolemia, but previous studies have shown inconsistent findings. Using 3D echocardiography, we tested the hypothesis that the LV twisting and untwisting motion would be enhanced during severe central hypovolemia.

The direct catalytic C-H functionalization of aromatic compounds such as anisoles and thioanisoles is of great interest and significance. However, achieving precise regioselectivity remains a major challenge. In this study, we conducted comprehensive density functional theory calculations to explore the mechanisms of rare-earth-catalyzed regioselective C-H alkylation, borylation, and silylation of anisole and thioanisole.

While several African swine fever virus (ASFV)-encoded proteins potently interfere with the cGAS-STING (cyclic GMP-AMP synthetase-stimulator of interferon genes) pathway at different levels to suppress interferon (IFN) type I production in infected macrophages, systemic IFN-α is induced during the early stages of AFSV infection in pigs. The present study elucidates a mechanism by which such responses can be triggered, at least in vitro. We demonstrate that infection of monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs) by ASFV genotype 2 strains is highly efficient but immunologically silent with respect to IFN type I, IFN-stimulated gene induction, and tumor necrosis factor production.

Organocatalyzed Diels-Alder Reactions: Unexplored Hydrogen Bond Donor Catalysts.

We have quantum chemically investigated the catalytic effect of hydrogen bonding organocatalysts, (H2N)2C=X (X = O, S, Se, NH, PH, AsH, CH2, SiH2 GeH2), such as urea, on the classic Diels-Alder reaction. All studied hydrogen bond donor catalysts enhance the Diels-Alder reaction between acrolein and 1,3-butadiene to a similar extent. Our activation strain and Kohn-Sham molecular orbital analyses show that these organocatalysts lower the reaction barrier by polarizing the p-orbitals away from the reactive carbon atoms of acrolein, reducing the Pauli repulsion between the reactants.

The emergence and rapid spread of multidrug-resistant strains pose a great challenge to the quality and safety of agricultural products and the efficient use of pesticides. Previously unidentified fungicides and targets are urgently needed to combat -associated infections as alternative therapeutic options. In this study, the promising compound Z24 demonstrated efficacy against all tested plant pathogenic fungi.
