Treat to target in Crohn's disease: A practical guide for clinicians.

World J Gastroenterol

January 2024

Department of Gastroenterology, Austin Health, Victoria, Melbourne 3083, Australia.

A treat-to-target (T2T) approach applies the principles of early intervention and tight disease control to optimise long-term outcomes in Crohn's disease. The Selecting Therapeutic Targets in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (STRIDE)-II guidelines specify short, intermediate, and long-term treatment goals, documenting specific treatment targets to be achieved at each of these timepoints. Scheduled appraisal of Crohn's disease activity against pre-defined treatment targets at these timepoints remains central to determining whether current therapy should be continued or modified.

Coparenting, mental health, and the pursuit of dignity: A systems-level analysis of refugee father-mother narratives.

Soc Sci Med

January 2024

Department of Anthropology, Yale University, USA; Jackson School of Global Affairs, Yale University, USA; Conflict, Resilience, and Health Program, Yale University, USA. Electronic address:

Research on coparenting is virtually absent from the refugee literature, despite its importance for family systems, children's bio-behavioural and emotional development, and intergenerational responses to social change. In 2022, we conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with Syrian refugees in Jordan and used thematic analysis to examine how fathers and mothers (n = 15 dyads) enacted parenting together. We identified four approaches characterising how couples navigated coparenting interactions, family cohesion, and intergenerational change.

Virtue in Pursuit of Goals: A Goals-Based Approach to Patience Measurement.

J Pers Assess

February 2024

Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, Baylor University, Waco, Texas.

In this paper, we provide a contextualized assessment of virtue through validation of a goals-based approach to measuring patience, the Goals-Based Virtue-Patience Scale (GBV-P). To assess virtue in a way congruent with its definition requires consideration of situational and contextual factors; however, most extant measures of virtue instead assess virtue at a decontextualized, global level (Ng & Tay, 2020). As such, we developed a contextualized and motivationally attuned goals-based assessment of the virtue of patience, the ability to remain calm in the face of frustration, suffering, or delay in goal pursuit.

A framework for residents' pursuit of excellence based upon non-cognitive and cognitive attributes.

Postgrad Med J

March 2023

Postgraduate Medical Education Office, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, S7N 5E5.

Purpose: Excellence, although variably conceptualized, is commonly used in medicine and the resident excellence literature is limited. Both cognitive attributes (CAs) and non-cognitive attributes (NCAs) are essential for academic and clinical performance; however, the latter are difficult to evaluate. Undergirded by an inclusive and non-competitive approach and utilizing CAs and NCAs, we propose a criterion-referenced behavioral framework of resident excellence.
