This study aimed to explore the diversity and functions of rumen mycobiota in 14‑ (PLf) and 15‑rib (DLf) Jiani yaks using ITS sequencing. A total of 1,079,105 and 1,086,799 filtered sequences were obtained for the PLf and DLf groups, respectively, with 491 ASVs common to both. No significant difference regarding the α‑diversity of mycobiota within the two groups was observed. While β‑diversity analysis indicated that the abundance of fifteen (15) genera in the PLf group and two (2) genera in the DLf group was found to be significantly different (p < 0.05). 16S rRNA sequencing results indicated that at the phylum level, in 14 ribs yaks Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, and Olpidiomycota, while in 15 rib yaks, Neocallimastigomycota, Mortierellomycota, and Rozellomycota were found to be significantly different (). At the genus level, , , , , , , and in 14 rib yaks, and , and in 15 rib yaks were found to be significantly () different. Predictive functional analysis based on ruminal fungal DNA sequences from 15‑rib yaks (DLf) demonstrated that genes involved in energy metabolism were upregulated. This study sheds novel insights into how genetic variations influence gut mycobiota in Jiani yak.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different castration methods, body weights at castration, and feeding management practices on the performance, carcass traits, and meat quality of grazing Nellore steers. 60 male cattle were randomly distributed among the following treatments: surgical castration (SC) at 350 kg body weight (BW) and finished in semiconfinement; immunocastration (ImC) at 350, 400, and 450 kg BW and finished in semiconfinement; and ImC at 450 kg BW and finished receiving protein-energy (P-E) supplementation. All steer production phases were carried out in a grazing system with tropical grass, and only the level of supplementation was varied.

The primary reason livers are condemned is due to abscesses, which are visible lesions detected on the liver during routine harvest of the animal. Condemned livers are deemed not fit for human consumption, and result in over $15M in lost income to the U.S.

In the Meat Standards Australia (MSA) and Guaranteed Global Grading (3G) grading schemes, beef marbling is scored visually in the chiller by accredited graders from 100 to 1190 marble score points in increments of 10. This study aimed to evaluate a hand-held camera (Q-FOM™ Beef) for determining MSA marbling scores of carcasses quartered between the 5th and 6th rib. The carcasses were scored by two accredited graders, including an expert grader (i.

This experimental phantom study investigates current standard of care protocols in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), energy-integrating-detector (EID) CT, and photon-counting-detector (PCD) CT regarding their potential in delineation of dental root canals. Artificial accessory canals (diameters: 1000, 600, 400, 300 and 200 μm) were drilled into three bovine teeth mounted on a bovine rib as a jaw substitute. The phantom was scanned in two dental CBCTs, two EID-CTs and a PCD-CT using standard clinical protocols.
