Lignanamides are a class of compounds containing amide functional groups in lignans. These compounds have excellent anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective, which have shown great potential in terms of food additives, medicine and health supplement. We summarized the recent progress of lignanamides, including chemical constituents, extraction methods, biological activities, and synthetic pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is commonly used in pharmacology as a solvent but may reduce the viability of both neuronal and glial cells in culture.
  • The natural compounds phenylamides and lignanamides (LnHS) show promise for protecting neuronal health, with LnHS partially counteracting the harmful effects of DMSO on neuronal cells (SH-SY5Y).
  • The study suggests that LnHS could support neuronal viability by reducing oxidative stress and inflammatory responses triggered by DMSO, warranting further investigation into its molecular mechanisms.

Department of Food Science and Biotechnology, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, Gangwon-do 24341, Republic of Korea.

Whole hempseed (WHS), fermented whole hempseed (FWHS), dehulled hempseed (DHS), and fermented dehulled hempseed (FDHS) ethanol extracts were tested for their toxicity and physiological benefits in relation to their phenolic profiles. The safety of all samples was confirmed by the absence of toxic effects on HepG2 cells. FWHS exhibited the highest capacity to inhibit lipase activity (70.

A chemical investigation of Solanum lyratum Thunb. (Solanaceae) afforded six pairs of enantiomeric lignanamides consisting of twelve undescribed compounds, along with two undescribed racemic mixtures, and the separations of the enantiomers were accomplished by chiral-phase HPLC. The structures of these undescribed compounds were elucidated by the analysis of spectroscopic data, NMR and electronic circular dichroism calculations.
