Mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) therapy holds great promise for treating myocardial infarction (MI). However, the inflammatory and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-rich environment in infarcted myocardium challenges MSC survival, limiting its therapeutic impact. In this study, we demonstrate that chemical modification of MSCs with anti-VCAM1 and polydopamine (PD) significantly enhances MSC survival and promotes cardiac repair.

This work aims to (1) identify microbial and metabolic alterations and (2) reveal a shift in phenylalanine production-consumption equilibrium in individuals with HIV. We conducted extensive searches in multiple databases [MEDLINE, Web of Science (including Cell Press, Oxford, HighWire, Science Direct, IOS Press, Springer Nature, PNAS, and Wiley), Google Scholar, and Embase] and selected two case-control 16S data sets (GenBank IDs: SRP039076 and EBI ID: ERP003611) for analysis. We assessed alpha and beta diversity, performed univariate tests on genus-level relative abundances, and identified significant microbiome features using random forest.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrinometabolic disorder affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by hormonal imbalances, irregular menstrual cycles, and often, infertility. Hypothalamic amenorrhea, a condition marked by the cessation of menstruation due to disruptions in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, is a frequent manifestation in PCOS. Probiotics, beneficial microorganisms known for improving metabolic health, have shown promise in restoring hormonal balance and enhancing fertility.

The disruption of protein homeostasis leads to the increased un- and misfolding of proteins and the formation of toxic protein aggregates. Their accumulation triggers an unfolded protein response that is characterized by the transcriptional upregulation of molecular chaperones and proteases, and aims to restore proteome integrity, maintain cellular function, suppress the cause of perturbation, and prevent disease and death. In the green microalga , the study of this response to proteotoxic stress has provided insights into the function of chaperone and protease systems, which are, though simpler, closely related to those found in land plants.

Insulin resistance (IR) disrupts hepatic glucose metabolism and mitochondrial function, which contributes to metabolic disorders. The present study examined the effects of tomatine on glucose metabolism in high-glucose-induced IR hepatocytes and explored its underlying mechanisms using AML12 and HepG2 cell models. The results showed that tomatine did not exhibit cytotoxic effects.
