Infectious complications (ICs) in acute pancreatitis (AP) are primarily driven by intestinal bacterial translocation, significantly increasing mortality and hospital stays. Despite this, the role of the gut microenvironment, particularly its metabolic aspects, in AP remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated a cohort of patients with AP, and conducted supplemental murine studies, to explore the relationship between the gut metabolome and the development of ICs.

Diabetes and mood disorders are intricately interconnected, with each condition elevating the risk of the other. This bidirectional relationship, further exacerbated by neuroinflammation, fosters an environment conducive to the development of anxiety and depression. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, such as semaglutide, offer promising therapeutic options that not only target type 2 diabetes but also can positively influence mood.

Metabolic reprogramming within the tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a critical role in driving drug resistance in gastrointestinal cancers (GI), particularly through the pathways of fatty acid oxidation and glycolysis. Cancer cells often rewire their metabolism to sustain growth and reshape the TME, creating conditions such as nutrient depletion, hypoxia, and acidity that impair antitumor immune responses. Immune cells within the TME also undergo metabolic alterations, frequently adopting immunosuppressive phenotypes that promote tumor progression and reduce the efficacy of therapies.
