This paper adds a new perspective to Ras Mohamed Protectorate mangrove sediment quality studies in terms of bioavailability, mobility, human and eco-environmental risk of various potential toxic elements (PTEs). Fe > Mn > Pb > Cu > Cd was the order in which the PTE levels declined. Residual fraction controlled the geochemical speciation of all elements. The following was the order of the mean percentages of mobile elements in sediments: Mn > Fe > Pb > Cu > Cd. All sediment samples had low to moderate risk, according to synergistic indices (GCF, mRAC, PETI-A and PTEI-B). Mn was the primary ecological risk PTE contributor. According to the suggested individual indices, Mn is the most mobile and bioavailable element (0.4-1), whereas Cd, Cu, Fe, and Pb have moderate mobility and bioavailability (MI 0.1-0.4 and BI 0.1-0.4, respectively). The current PTE exposure in sediments did not constitute a significant health concern (THQ < 1 and LCR < 10).

The impact of particulate matter (PM) on the deterioration of outdoor cultural heritage is of increasing concern, given the recent trends in atmospheric emissions. This work presents a novel method for investigating the effects of PM on bronze corrosion by combining the collection of ambient PM directly on metal substrates and ageing under controlled laboratory conditions, with the development of a predictive model based on chemometrics. PM deposits of different mass and composition were collected and chemically characterised using Ionic Chromatography, Total Organic Carbon, and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy.

Retention of molecules on immobilized artificial membrane (IAM) chromatography is a key physicochemical property for predictive models of permeability across biological barriers, with applications in drug design and ecotoxicology. Currently, IAM retention is solely experimentally determined, which limits its utility for screening virtual compound libraries or for predictions of yet not synthesized molecules. The present study focuses on developing predictive models of IAM retention factors (logk) for a structurally diverse set of drug compounds, scrutinizing the role of lipophilicity, experimental and calculated, as well as the contribution of additional molecular parameters, selected from a pool of physicochemical, constitutional, topological and 3D descriptors.

The composition of natural substances varies with plant species and cultivation environment factors, which is also a complex problem. A total of 127 substances of agarwood essential oils (AEOs) extracted by hydro-distillation were identified by GC-MS analysis. Among the components obtained from AEOs, sesquiterpenes and small molecule aromatic substances were the main components, and there were significantly fewer chromones.
