Diurnal rhythm-modulated transcriptome analysis of meibomian gland in hyperlipidemic mice using RNA sequencing.

Int Ophthalmol

January 2025

Center for Stem Cell and Translational Medicine, School of Life Sciences, Anhui University, Hefei, 230600, Anhui, People's Republic of China.

Aim: To explore the regulatory mechanism of meibomian gland (MG) in hyperlipidemic mice under a diurnal rhythm by transcriptomic analysis based on high-throughput sequencing.

Methods: The mouse model of hyperlipidemia induced by four months of high-fat diet (HFD) feeding to a regular light-dark (LD) cycle for 2 weeks was used in this study. Phenotypic observation and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) of MGs of the experimental mice were then performed to investigate transcriptional changes due to hyperlipidemia and the diurnal rhythm and their effects on meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

This prospective cohort study is aimed to investigate circadian variations in corneal parameters, focusing on sleep-deprived subjects. Sixty-four healthy individuals (age range: 21-76 years) actively participated in this study, undergoing examinations at least five times within a 24-hour timeframe. The analysis encompassed keratometric parameters of the cornea's front (F) and back (B) surfaces, refractive power in flattest and steepest axes (K1, K2), astigmatism (Astig) and its axis (Axis), aspheric coefficient (Asph), corneal pachymetry values of thinnest corneal thickness (Pachy Min) and corneal thickness in the center of the pupil (Pachy Pupil), volume relative to the 3 and 10 mm corneal diagonal (Vol D3, Vol D10) and surface variance index (ISV).

Department of Agricultural Economics and Animal Production, Faculty of Science and Agriculture, University of Limpopo, Private Bag X1106, Sovenga, 0727, South Africa.

The contamination of river systems by tailing dust remains a constraint to goat productivity in communal farming systems. A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate how resource-limited households in subtropical regions assessed the effects of tailing dust contamination in drinking water on the health status of goats. In a study conducted in the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality, 200 households from two villages were randomly selected and interviewed using a questionnaire.

Article Synopsis
  • Moebius syndrome (MoS) is a rare condition that affects facial movement and causes problems with closing the eyelids, making it hard for people to fully blink.
  • A study was done with 15 people at a conference to learn about their experiences living with this condition, and they discussed how it affects their daily lives and how society sees them.
  • The researchers noted that many participants felt a mix of challenges, like social stigma, and had different opinions on surgery, but many also showed a strong sense of self-acceptance about their situation.
