Azulene, a non-alternant aromatic hydrocarbon, has attracted significant attention due to its unique electronic properties, and potential applications in organic electronics and optoelectronics. This review highlights recent advances in the synthesis, reactivity, and functional properties of ring-fused azulene derivatives. The discussion encompasses classical synthetic routes, including the Ziegler-Hafner and Nozoe methods, as well as novel approaches such as transition metal-catalyzed cyclizations. Key advancements in the construction of benz[a]azulenes, naphthazulenes, and other polycyclic azulene frameworks are detailed, emphasizing their regioselective functionalization and enhanced stability. Moreover, the incorporation of azulene moieties into polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heterocyclic systems is explored, highlighting their potential applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), field-effect transistors (OFETs), and photovoltaic devices. Special attention is given to azulene-fused helicenes and nanographenes, which demonstrate promising chiroptical properties and extended π-conjugation. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the synthetic strategies and emerging applications of azulene-based compounds, contributing to the development of advanced materials for future electronic and photonic technologies.

A one-pot process involving cycloaddition of the azaoxyallyl cation with thioamide and a synchronous E1-type elimination of the C2 amino group from the cycloadduct is disclosed, leading to diverse alkylidene-4-thiazolidinones. Amine elimination under acid-free conditions or without quaternization and forging a stereoselective olefin formation were among the interesting reactivity traits revealed through the present work. Conjugated thioamide permitted side-chain branching through a three-component process.

Background: The imperative need for early cancer detection, which is crucial for improved survival rates in many severe cancers such as lung cancer, remains challenging due to the lack of reliable early-diagnosis technologies and robust biomarkers. To address this gap, innovative screening platforms are essential to unveil the chemical signatures of lung cancer and its treatments. It is established that the oxidative tumor environment induces alterations in host metabolic processes and influences endogenous volatile synthesis.

Mechanisms of cognitive impairment associated with cerebral infarction.

Department of Neurology, Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha 410011, China.

Cerebral infarction is a common type of stroke with high incidence and disability rates, and most patients experience varying degrees of cognitive impairment. The manifestations and severity of post-infarction cognitive impairment are influenced by multiple interacting factors, and its pathophysiological mechanisms are highly complex, involving pericyte degeneration, excessive generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), overproduction of glutamate, and overactivation of autophagy. After cerebral infarction, abnormal pericyte function activates neuroinflammation and facilitates the entry of inflammatory mediators into the brain; detachment of pericytes from blood vessels disrupts the integrity of the blood-brain barrier.

Electronic address:

The synthesis of monomers with two epoxy structures (EIA) was successfully achieved by adopting holo-biobased feedstocks and in situ solvolysis reaction. The molecular structure of EIA was subjected to characterization through the use of infrared spectroscopy (IR), mass spectrometry (MS), and nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy (H NMR). The EIA was employed as the epoxy monomers for the synthesis of the grafted compatibilizer, resulting in the successful preparation of a fully bio-based and high epoxy value grafted compatibilizer (PLA-g-EIA (PLE)).

Background: Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is the main pathophysiology of testicular torsion-detorsion (T/D). However, there is no safe and effective treatment for testicular I/R injury.

Methods: The levels of NAD related genes were measured in the sham group, I/R + saline-treated group, and I/R + NMN-treated group by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR).
