Objectives: The objective is to investigate the association between antidepressant drugs intake and falls reporting, as well as the potential mediators in-between, in older adults.
Methods: In VigiBase®, the World Health Organization's pharmacovigilance database, we performed a disproportionality analysis to probe the putative associations between each antidepressant drugs class (non-selective monoamine reuptake inhibitors [NSMRIs], selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors [SSRIs], serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors [SNRIs], alpha-2-adrenergic receptor antagonists, and "other antidepressants") and reports of falls in people aged 65 and over (NCT05628467). The reporting odds ratios and their 95% confidence interval were derived from logistic regression models with adjustment for confounders.

Objective: Hyponatremia is a common electrolyte disorder among older adults that can cause serious adverse effects. The purpose of this study was to assess the risk of hyponatremia with the concurrent use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and thiazide diuretics in an older population.
Methods: Two retrospective nested case-control studies were conducted with exposure to an SSRI or a thiazide diuretic.

Rationale: Vitamin D deficiency is common among the elderly due to limited sunlight exposure, increasing osteoporosis risk. Over-supplementation poses risks, especially with caregiver involvement.
Patient Concerns: Rising vitamin D overdose cases underscore the need for better education on safe intake and monitoring practices to prevent toxicity, particularly hypercalcemia from excessive doses.

Background: Trauma is a major cause of mortality in the elderly population. Hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte imbalance in geriatric patients and has been demonstrated to be a risk factor for altered cognition, low bone density, falls, and death. We systematically and critically reviewed the literature to ascertain the association between hyponatremia and geriatric trauma outcomes.
