Background Recent studies have investigated how deep learning (DL) algorithms applied to CT using two-dimensional (2D) segmentation (sagittal or axial planes) can calculate bone mineral density (BMD) and predict osteoporosis-related outcomes. Purpose To determine whether TotalSegmentator, an nnU-net algorithm, can measure three-dimensional (3D) vertebral body BMD across consistently imaged thoracic levels (T1-T10) at any conventional, noncontrast chest CT examination. Materials and Methods This study is a secondary analysis of a multicenter ( = 6) prospective cohort, the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).

Whole pancreas water T mapping at 3 Tesla.

MAGMA

March 2025

Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, TUM School of Medicine and Health, Technical University of Munich, Munich, Germany.

Purpose: A fast T mapping method of the whole pancreas remains a challenge, due to the complex anatomy of the organ. In addition, a technique for pancreas water T mapping is needed, since the T is biased in the presence of fat. The purpose of this work is to accelerate the acquisition of water selective T (wT) mapping for the whole pancreas at 3 T.

Underlying factors that affect ultrasound conspicuity of breast biopsy markers: an exploratory study.

Transl Breast Cancer Res

January 2025

Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, The Grainger College of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL, USA.

Background: During management of node-positive breast cancer, neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NST) is often used to de-escalate surgical intervention. To identify pathology-proven positive nodes regardless of visual changes after NST, breast biopsy clips or markers are inserted under ultrasound guidance as part of standard care, though most markers are used off-label in the axilla. However, clipped nodes may be difficult to visually confirm with ultrasound after a pathological complete response.

Objectives: To assess the impact of acquisition and reconstruction factors on the robustness of radiomics within photon-counting detector CT (PCD-CT).

Methods: A phantom with twenty-eight texture materials was scanned with different acquisition and reconstruction factors including reposition, scan mode (standard vs high-pitch), tube voltage (120 kVp vs 140 kVp), slice thickness (1.0 mm vs 0.
