Mammaglobin negative secretory carcinoma of salivary gland--a diagnostically challenging case report.

Indian J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg

Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, PGIDS, Rohtak, Haryana India.

Published: February 2025

Secretory carcinoma, impacting the salivary gland, embodies a low-intermediate grade malignancy characterized by the propensity for local dissemination. The fourth edition of the 2017 head and neck World Health Organization's repertoire has recently integrated SC of the salivary gland into its classification scheme. We aim to delve into a case involving a 35-year-old female presenting with swelling on the left side of her face, persisting for the past 12 years, and exhibiting a negative mammaglobin status.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) can be classified into several subtypes based on molecular traits, aiding in prognostic stratification. The subtype with a poor prognosis is often associated with stem/progenitor features. This study focused on identifying circulating biomarkers for aggressive HCC.

Intraductal carcinoma (IDC) of the salivary gland is rare. Histologic subtypes include intercalated duct, oncocytic, apocrine, and hybrid/mixed. Molecular correlates have been described, with intercalated duct IDC typically harboring NCOA4::RET, while TRIM33::RET, or BRAF pathogenic variants predominating in oncocytic IDC.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is the fastest-growing cause of liver cancer. The liver microenvironment of patients with MASH supports the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain-containing 2 (CHCHD2), which is located in both the mitochondria and nucleus, is increased in MASH liver.
