Chondro-osseous respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartomas (COREAHs) are benign hamartomas very rarely seen in the nasal cavity. We are presenting a case of COREAH in a 39-year-old female that was managed surgically. As the clinical history and gross and radiological features of COREAH resemble those of other aggressive diseases, this case report puts emphasis on considering COREAH as a differential diagnosis to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions.

The epithelial barrier in different organs is the first line of defense against environmental insults and allergens, with type 2 immunity serving as a protective function. Genetic factors, and biological and chemical insults from the surrounding environment altered regulate epithelial homeostasis through disruption of epithelial tight junction proteins or dilated intercellular spaces. Recent studies suggest that epithelial barrier dysfunction contributes to pathologic alteration in diseases with type 2 immune dysregulation including (but not limited to) atopic dermatitis, prurigo nodularis, asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, and eosinophilic esophagitis.

Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is an important avian pathogen with a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome. IBV is the causative agent of infectious bronchitis (IB), a primarily respiratory disease affecting chickens, with the ability to disseminate to other organ systems, such as the gastrointestinal, renal, lymphoid, and reproductive systems. Tracheal epithelial cells are the primary target of IBV, and these cells play a vital role in the effective induction of the antiviral response and eventual clearance of IBV.
