Background: Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a chronic condition that requires prolonged and consistent management. Failure to recognize the necessity for prolonged treatment and care may result in a lack of acceptance of the disease, feelings of hopelessness and a lack of emphasis on healthy living, which can lead to an unmanageable disease, serious complications, increased care costs, elevated mortality and morbidity rates. The objective of this study is to examine the relationships between healthy lifestyle behaviors, hopelessness and illness acceptance levels among individuals diagnosed with lower extremity PAD and related factors.

Despite advances made toward the automation of medical treatments, existing work has predominantly focused on the automation of individual medical treatments while overlooking interferences between them. In our prior work, we developed an automation architecture to administer interfering medical treatments with safety, which (i) monitors internal physiological state of a patient using an extended Kalman filter, (ii) mediates medical treatments to bound the estimated internal state within a prescribed safe regime based on control barrier functions, and (iii) treats the patient to a prespecified treatment target through a number of intermediate targets derived from reachability analysis. The goal of this work was to investigate the scalability of this automation architecture in more complex and challenging medical treatment scenarios with a number of conflicts.

The placement of gambling problems within the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) framework, which organizes psychopathology alongside broad overarching symptom spectra, is unclear. With the objective to identify associations between gambling problems and the internalizing, externalizing, and thought disorder spectra of the HiTOP, we distributed an online survey to a sample of 1005 Swedish gamblers (52.4% men, aged 18 to 60 and older).

Purpose: Doppler ultrasound assessment of common femoral vein (CFV) flow could represent a simple, fast, and noninvasive technique to identify right ventricular dysfunction and venous congestion in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Our primary objective was to determine the prevalence of abnormal CFV flow pulsatility before cardiac surgery. Secondary objectives included investigating its association with postoperative outcomes.
