Dengue fever is spreading rapidly around the world, affecting nearly half the world's population. Causes include urbanization, human mobility, climate change and the spread of mosquito vectors such as In 2023 and 2024, there was a marked increase in cases and deaths worldwide. Spotted fever group rickettsioses (SFGR) pose a global threat as emerging zoonotic infectious diseases; however, timely and cost-effective diagnostic tools are currently limited. We used data from 449 patients presenting to 2 hospitals in northern Tanzania between 2007 and 2008, of which 71 (15.8%) met criteria for acute SFGR based on ≥4-fold rise in antibody titers between acute and convalescent serum samples.

Background: Malaria is responsible for 580,000 deaths among children under 5, or 95% of all malaria deaths per year globally. Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) is a malaria control intervention in Togo and other African countries targeting children under 5 years old during the peak malaria transmission season. Delaying access to healthcare for children with malaria can result in serious health problems, including heightened morbidity and mortality, complications related to cerebral malaria and anemia, as well as impaired cognitive development.

We investigated whether changes in the gut microbiome composition are associated with infections and immunologic complications during the treatment of Korean children, adolescents, and young adults (AYAs) with hematologic malignancies. We analyzed stool samples from 26 patients and 10 healthy siblings using 16 S rRNA gene sequencing. At diagnosis, patients exhibited a lower abundance of Lachnospiraceae and a higher abundance of Enterococcaceae than their healthy siblings.
