The development and practical applications of multifunctional organic fluorophores have garnered significant attention in translational research in recent years. Among the fluorophores, nitrobenzodioxazole (NBD) has been widely used in various fields due to its small size and neutral character, both of which are advantageous for biorelated applications. However, NBD presents some limitations, including (1) suboptimal photophysical properties for in vivo applications and (2) its monofunctional nature, which restricts its use in fluorescence-based bioimaging and sensing. To overcome these challenges, recent research has focused on the development of nitrobenzoselenadiazole (NBSD) derivatives, a selenium analog of NBD. In this review article, we systematically summarize recent advancements in the development of NBSD and highlight examples of its application in translational research as a multifunctional organic fluorophore. We also explore the potential applications of NBSD and present representative case studies, providing valuable context for the ongoing development of new NBSD derivatives in the field of fluorophore-related material science.

Asymmetric organocatalysis by bifunctional acid- and base-type small organic molecules has emerged as a promising way to enhance stereoselective organic transformations since the beginning of this millennium. Takemoto's -amine/thiourea catalyst, an archetype in these endeavors, has encouraged many to design new multifunctional alternatives. However, the discovery of efficient catalysts in a library of thousands of candidates containing the desired functionalities in their structures remains a great challenge both synthetically and computationally.

In this paper, the dispersion stability of graphene was effectively promoted by the introduction of hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), a novel composite hydrogel PAM-LMA-PDA@TiO-GN was prepared. Polyacrylamide (PAM) provided the basic three-dimensional network structure, lauryl methacrylate (LMA), as the hydrophobic monomer, constructed the hydrophobic associative micro-regions inside the hydrogel, which enhanced the structural stability, and polydopamine-coated TiO (PDA@TiO), as a nano-toughness enhancement point, which endowed the hydrogel with a stress and strain of 1026 kPa and 2519 %, respectively. Hydrogels loaded with Ag nanowires (Ag NWs) and graphene (GN) were prepared using Ag nanowires as the intercalating agent, graphene as the substrate and hydrogel as the carrier, graphene and Ag nanowires endow the hydrogels with excellent electron transport capabilities.

Improvements in tumor therapy require a combination of strategies where targeted treatment is critical. We developed a new versatile nanoplatform, MA@E, that generates high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) with effective photothermal conversions in the removal of tumors. Enhanced stability liposomes were employed as carriers to facilitate the uniform distribution and stable storage of encapsulated gold nanorods (AuNRs) and Mn-MIL-100 metal-organic frameworks, with efficient delivery of MA@E to the cytoplasm.
