Ultrasonography (USG)-guided interventions have transformed pain medicine by enhancing precision, efficacy, and safety through real-time anatomical visualization. Despite these advantages, mastering USG techniques presents a steep learning curve, especially for practitioners transitioning from fluoroscopy-guided methods. Adapting the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change, this commentary outlines a five-phase framework for transitioning to USG-guided pain medicine interventions: overcoming initial reluctance, addressing sonoanatomy challenges, improving probe stabilization, needle visualization, and achieving expertise. Each stage reflects progressive skill acquisition, highlighting structured training and mentorship as critical facilitators. This phased approach may accelerate learning and fosters proficiency, improving clinical outcomes in pain medicine interventionsinterventions.

Background: Neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) are rare tumors from hormone-secreting neuroendocrine cells, often within the gastrointestinal tract. The authors report what is, to their best knowledge, the first case of a small intestine NEC metastasizing to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

Case Description: A 60-year-old man came to the oral medicine, oncology, and orofacial pain clinic with a chief concern of left-sided jaw pain.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common musculoskeletal disease globally and is the main reason for the chronic pain and disability in people over sixty-five worldwide. Degradation of the articular cartilage, synovial inflammation and osteophyte formation are widely acknowledged as the primary pathological manifestations of OA. OA affects more than 300 million people all over the world, bringing extremely large socioeconomic burden.

Trifluoroacetic Acid Induced a Cyclophilin D-Dependent Cognitive Impairment in Mice.

Aging Dis

February 2025

Geriatric Anesthesia Research Unit, Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Charlestown, MA 02129, USA.

Studies have linked inhalation anesthesia and surgery to increased cognitive impairment, particularly in the elderly. Our previous research showed that isoflurane, but not desflurane, affected cognitive function in mice by modulating cyclophilin D (CypD), a key regulator of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) and mitochondrial function. Both anesthetics metabolize into trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), which is associated with cognitive deficits.

March 2025

Department of Surgery and Cancer Research Institute, Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Background: Previous studies have reported the effectiveness of the "enhanced recovery after surgery" program in patients who underwent gastric cancer surgery, mostly based on the 2014 gastrectomy guidelines. Therefore, based on subsequent advancements in perioperative management, this randomized, controlled, open-label, single-center study aimed to assess the impact of a recent evidence-based multimodal enhanced recovery after surgery program on the quality of early recovery after gastric cancer surgery.

Materials And Methods: This study included adult patients scheduled to undergo elective laparoscopic or robotic distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer.
