Postoperative ileus (POI) remains a prevalent and significant challenge following abdominal surgeries, precipitating patient distress, prolonged hospital stays, and escalated medical expenditures. Conventionally addressed pharmacological interventions, POI is increasingly being explored through adjunctive therapeutic strategies, with acupuncture gaining recognition as a promising option. Acupuncture has demonstrated encouraging potential in promoting gastrointestinal motility in patients with POI. Moreover, recent research has shed light on the therapeutic mechanisms underlying its efficacy. This article aims to present a comprehensive overview of acupuncture as a treatment for POI, highlighting advancements in clinical research and recent elucidations of its mechanistic underpinnings. It aspires to contribute a pivotal reference point for scholars and enthusiasts keen on garnering a deeper understanding of acupuncture's role in managing POI.

Background: Caesarean delivery is an abdominal surgery and hydration and nutrition during postoperative care is a main concern for women. It is customary to give oral fluids only after 24 hours following the return of bowel sounds. Early oral fluid intake has been recommended for women after caesarean delivery, which may improve earlier gastrointestinal recovery that can facilitate early discharge from hospital.

Background: There is ongoing debate regarding the benefits of extended mesenteric excision (EME) versus limited mesenteric excision (LME) in intestinal resection for Crohn's disease (CD). Some studies suggest that EME may reduce surgical recurrence, which is defined as the need for reoperation due to disease complications or insufficient response to therapy, when compared with LME. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to compare postoperative complications, surgical recurrence, and endoscopic recurrence in patients undergoing EME versus LME for CD.
